Really? I can’t cook/bake that in my 23’ travel trailer? Really?
I beg to differ! I can cook anything in my small RV that can be cooked in a sticks and bricks!
Don’t believe me? Read on.
Yes, we have a very, very small kitchen. There is NO counter space! We have, literally, a wedge between the stove/oven and the sink in the corner. The front of the wedge of the counter is about 6”, then it gets wider.
But we do have a table! This table serves as a great prep space.
Now….. what did you say that I can’t make in my tiny RV? Let me show you some of the great meals and desserts that I have made.
My latest endeavor was Honeycomb Toffee. This is something that I have wanted to try making for quite some time. I love Honeycomb Toffee! However……I have a dairy allergy and Honeycomb Toffee is regularly covered in chocolate, which I can’t have.
The sugar/honey mixture is heated to 300* (Yes, we have a candy thermometer in my RV kitchen)
Once up to temp baking soda is added and it is put in a pan to be broken up once it has cooled.
It turned out wonderful!! Now I can have my Honeycomb Toffee anytime I want it!
I love making homemade Cinnamon Rolls!
I have a rolling mat that I use for stuff like this. You can get one at any baking store or even Michael’s in the baking isle. I know this says it’s for fondant, but I use it for all my baking needs, cookies, breads, etc.
And how about some fudge for Christmas? Yep, I do that as well!
Since I have a dairy allergy I can’t eat most snacks that you can buy. One of my favorites was always Oatmeal Cream Pies. But….they have dairy. So, I figured out how to make my own!
From cookies to pies to cakes to cupcakes…..anything you can bake in a standard sticks and bricks oven, you can bake in an RV oven.
“But stuff burns in my RV oven” is the standard response that we get from people. Things burn on the bottom and are raw in the center. So, how do you prevent that? A pizza stone! Put a pizza stone in your oven (on the shelf above the flame and below the rack you put your pans on). This distributes the heat in the oven so your goodies don’t burn and bake evenly.
Also have a good oven thermometer on hand. With gas you need to monitor your oven temp so your oven doesn’t bake too hot or too cool.
Ok, now you’re thinking I only make sweets. Well, that’s where you would be wrong. I love to make sweets. However, I love to cook all kinds of food!
Chicken Piccata! Absolutely!
Or how about some Greek Chicken with Potatoes? This is a great one pan meal in the oven.
Or maybe you’d rather have a Pork Tenderloin with a Creamy Mushroom Sauce.
How about Chicken and Dumplings? Yes, That can be made in an RV as well!
And I love making Indian Food! Chicken Tikka Masala and Chickpea Veggie Curry? Yes please!
And one last sweet for you!
How about some Apple Fritters?
So, next time you think “I can’t cook/bake that in an RV” or someone says “You can’t cook/bake that in an RV” think about this blog post and find a way to do it. Don’t limit what you eat or make just because you’re living in or vacationing in an RV.
